MUSEUM OF THE HAITIAN NATIONAL PANTHEON
In the entrance hall, we will observe the busts of Dessalines and Pétion by Normil Charles and the symbolic remains of the two heroes. Please note that on the Place des Ministries, opposite the courthouse, their mausoleum is still visible. We wanted to reunite for eternity the first of the blacks and the first of the mulattoes and we can be surprised that despite the constant allusions to the glorious ancestors, the place is so poorly maintained and the tomb left in such a state. abandonment... Once through the entrance hall, you enter a vast room which traces the history of the island.
The first section concerns the Tainos. There we will see an intact vase found in Gros-Morne, jewelry, an axe, etc.
The second section, dedicated to the Spanish, has an imposing piece: an anchor, unearthed near Caracol, in the North-East, attributed to the Santa María, one of Christopher Columbus' caravels. You can see some weapons there: muskets, swords, etc.
We then move on to the colonial period or, more precisely, that of slavery. The chain of punishment, found near Les Cayes, is brutally eloquent.
In the section devoted to the heroes of independence, we can see various objects that belonged to Toussaint Louverture, a large drum (assotor) and a Masonic sword which were the property of Pétion, a portrait of King Christophe by Evans.
The last section is a little less interesting despite the presence of the crown of Soulouque (Faustin 1er).
Another room is reserved for temporary exhibitions (plastic arts, photography). On the terrace, you can admire wrought iron sculptures made by Andrisson Fils Aimé, Andy Auguste, Serge Jolimeau and Gabriel Bien-Aimé
